Ways You Can Keep Your Gym Sanitary

Gyms are amazing facilities where patrons can attend to improve their overall well-being. They can accomplish this through the use of various equipment that you provide at your gym such as dumbells, treadmills, and much more. Unfortunately, because so many people are using your equipment, bacteria can easily spread between gym-goers. But there’s no need to fret. In fact, if you own or manage a gym, you can follow many steps to keep your gym sanitary. Some of which are listed below.

Methods to Keep Your Gym Sanitary

Cautious Cleaning

Of course, everybody knows how to clean. But not everybody — maybe including you — knows how to properly perform cautious cleaning. In order to clean cautiously, you have to take many steps to ensure that the actual cleaning and sanitization isn’t performed in vain.

As you’re disinfecting your gym, make sure you:

  • Wash Your Hands – Wash your hands before cleaning, even if you plan on wearing gloves. Use soap and water or even rub your hands with an alcohol-based sanitizer for a minimum of 20 seconds
  • Wear PPEs or Other Similar Attire – Always wear protective clothing. Not only does it protect you from harmful pathogens, but it will also prohibit bacteria that’s on you from spreading onto your equipment.
  • Mindful Application – If you are relying on wipes, you should wipe in the same direction in order to prevent contamination (you may need to buy multiple wipes). If you are using a spray, the surface can just be simply sprayed down. (If using a spray, you should let the liquid remain on the equipment for roughly a minute).
  • Dispose of PPE, Cleaning Materials, & Re-Wash Hands – Despite the precautions you make, you should be extra cautious and dispose of any materials that are recommended to be used only once.

Educate Clients

As the owner of your gym, you always want to ensure that your clients are able to exercise safely. So when you want to guarantee their well-being, you should teach them to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria and pathogens. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to speak with them personally to teach them such (Unless you’re a personal trainer helping someone exercise). You can instead put up a sign that states rules or steps for clients to take in order to ensure they’re safe.

Your sign should mention that guests should use a towel to cover equipment while they’re in use. More so, it should also mention that equipment should be wiped down or disinfected with a wipe after use. And finally, your sign should also mention washing your hands after working out. This last step is crucial considering that sweat can appear on hands during a workout, and by washing the sweat off, guests will be able to prevent the spread of harmful germs among individuals.
